If you’ve been the victim of a break-in, sadly you’re not alone. Last year Brisbane clocked up 11,077 break-ins. That’s more than one every hour, according to Queensland Police data.

More than half of those break-ins happened on Brisbane’s south side. While north side and bayside burbs were amongst the city’s safest, reports Brisbane Times.
Close to us, the increasingly popular suburb of Stafford is also becoming increasingly safe. Over the past two decades crimes have more than halved from 1374 in 2001 to 458 in 2018. That flash new police station seems to be working.
Further north, Mango Hill has seen crime increase over the same period from 668 to 3965 crimes. But don’t be too put off as the increase is due to the rapid population growth which has also occurred over the same time.
While Stradbroke Island might be a holiday paradise, its ferry stop suburb of Dunwich has the dubious honour of recording the highest number of break-ins per capita over the past 10 years, with an average 126 break-ins per 100,000 people.
Yes, those numbers don’t quite make sense since the Dunwich population is just 1863. Just remember it’s an average.
While the rural retreat of Dayboro, 46km north of the city, saw the lowest incidence of break-ins.
