But do we have a welcome mat big enough to accommodate everyone?
Possibly not, according to a recent article in realestate.com.au.
Investors are doing their bit, snapping up inner and near city properties with proximity to key games venues.
But Property analyst and ex-Brissie local Michael Matusik has looked at the numbers and thinks they might not add up.
“I do wonder if there will be enough beds when it comes to accommodating the 2032 Olympics,” Mr Matusik told realestate.com.au.
“I reckon that Brisbane, and even South East Queensland, isn’t big enough to host such an event. Barcelona — with 1.63 million residents — is a case in point.”
The Property Council has also weighed in. Their research shows that the number of hotels built in Brissie in the past five years has dropped by 90 per cent and point to a 40 per cent increase in hotel construction costs over the same period.
So what’s the solution? Bold policy change, says the Property Council.
We’re thinking Brissie locals might get creative and see their granny flats, caravans and spare rooms as revenue streams – possibly even the emergence of middle-ring backyard camping grounds? Or not!
