New property index captions Queenslanders’ rental pain: Chermside cracks the list

Australia’s top 25 most stressed rental suburbs have made recent headlines with new data showing where renters were facing the most serious shortage of rental properties.

The Suburbtrends Rental Pain Index, published on realestate.com.au, shows Stanthorpe renters have it tougher than any other tenants in the nation.

With just a handful of properties for rent, it earned a Rental Pain Index score of 91 out of 100. Ouch.

Queensland took out nine places in the list of Australia’s top 25 most stressed rental suburbs, including Chermside which scored 85 out of 100 on the rental pain scale.

Chermside has more than a handful of properties for rent, but like many well located suburbs, demand is high. Pricing can vary depending on the type of property but relative affordability and the amenity of Westfield – a mini CBD – means this suburb is perennially popular with renters.

Most suburbs which scored high on the Rental Pain Index list are outside of the Brisbane area, but still clustered around south east Queensland.

Check out the Queensland suburbs in the top 25 Aussie suburbs experiencing rental pain:

  • Stanthorpe
  • Warwick
  • Chermside
  • Beaudesert
  • Boonah
  • Upper Coomera North
  • Southport North
  • Walkervale
  • Avenell Heights
  • Beenleigh
