Insider tips for staging your home for sale

Getting ready to sell? Going that extra mile to present your home in its best light will help attract the best offers.

That doesn’t mean you need to splash out tens of thousands of dollars in renovations – and in fact overdoing things could mean you spend money you don’t get back.

But fixing maintenance problems, freshening up tired wall paint and decorating with the right furnishings can help.

Here are some stylist tips from Houzz that can help you get your home ready for sale, and they won’t cost the earth.

  • You don’t need to bother with aromas of freshly ground coffee or freshly baked bread. Keep open homes airy with windows open and lights on.
  • Repaint walls with a neutral, white base to maximise appeal to a range of buyers. Try Dulux Natural White or Vivid White.
  • Fresh or fake flowers and plants can do the trick, but only opt for fresh if you’re still living in the property and can keep them watered and looking at their best.

So should you use a professional stylist? It’s best to talk to your local agent to get their advice based on your individual property and the expectations of buyers in your local area.

For the right property, a professional styling package is well worth the investment, but for others, the DIY version could be just as effective.
