Brighter Buying

Brissie homes for under $400k in #2 emerging hot spots

Thought your first-time property dreams would come with a half-million price tag? Well think again.

If you’re prepared to take a closer look at some once daggy suburbs, you’ll see they’re shrugging off their moth-eaten cardigans and emerging as hot spots for entry level buyers.
Here on the north side Taigum and Strathpine are undergoing a style makeover, waving goodbye to wallflower status and taking a well-heeled step into the limelight.
Taigum has always felt a little, well, tired. But its affordability is attracting first time buyers who have vision and are seeking value, according to Domain senior research analyst Nicola Powell.
“It’s popular due to its value but you can pick up a low maintenance established home, which is really primed for renovation and on a decent block,” she told 9news.com.au.
Cash-strapped first timers should also check out Strathpine. It’s a bit pricier but you’ll get more amenity with a bustling commercial hub around the old Westfield. Sure, Westies might have moved to North Lakes and taken Myer with it, but you won’t be short of retail and foodie options in Strathpine Shopping Centre.
“Strathpine has had a lot of development, it really has been targeted towards that live-in owner, but what they have produced is affordable housing for those first-time buyers so there’s an opportunity there to buy brand new,” Powell says.
