Netflix and YouTube are awash with converted souls who’ve thrown out all but two pairs of shoes and reached new levels of peace and happiness.
Just as a clean cupboard seems to birth a clear mind, so too can uncluttered architecture.
Enter Japandi style. It’s like Mari Kondo meets Ikea… sort of.
The Spruce describes it a little more fully:
“Japandi design combines light, bright, and functional aspects of Scandinavian design with warm, sophisticated elements of Japanese design. As a result, Japandi is minimalist, earthy, and organic.”
It goes on to say:
“The perfect fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian, Japandi design focuses on aesthetically pleasing and highly functional minimalist designs.”
This style first emerged 150 years ago but is particularly relevant in today’s world where minimalism, sustainability and simplicity are increasingly valued.
Add a Brissie lens to it (Bris-pan-di?) and you can hit a winner by using natural materials and greenery that blend the indoors and outdoors to create a Zen-like calm.
Sounds like a timber back deck was made to be Japandi.
