Five years ago the All Blacks retained the Bledisloe (again), Swifties were listening to Folklore and the world was watching wide eyed as the pandemic swept the globe.

While Australia’s Bledisloe woes and Taylor Swift obsession remain, many other things have changed – especially Brissie property prices.

In fact, in the last five years, Brissie prices have jumped 70 per cent, the equivalent of $402,000.

That’s a huge move but not big enough to grab Brissie a spot in the top 20 fastest growing locations over that timeframe.

It is a list that is dominated by regional hubs with the Queensland town of Kingaroy taking the second spot nationally, having clocked up a whopping 95.6 per cent growth over five years.

Taking out the top spot is Murray Bridge in South Australia which saw over 100 per cent growth.

The Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast crack the list, as do many other Queensland hubs like Heryey Bay and even Gympie, reports Domain.

Domain says the massive growth spikes are “a contrast to the early days of the pandemic when economists were forecasting high unemployment and deep property price falls”.

The government policy response, including JobKeeper payments, coupled with record low interest rates and increased savings pushed prices higher as more buyers could afford to buy while fewer houses were for sale.
