But soon all residents will be experiencing a little more aviation in their lives as Brisbane Airport’s second runway gets set for May 2020 take off, reports news.com.au.
The second runway – which will support a two-fold increase in plane movements over the next 30 years – will create new flight paths over Brisbane.
This means suburbs like Bulimba, Ascot, Hamilton, Hawthorne, New Farm and Newstead will experience noticeably more aircraft nose.
The Brisbane Airport flight path tool shows the nearby suburbs which will be affected by flight noise of more than 70 decibels.
While some Brissie residents are understandably apprehensive, others are seeing benefits.
Real Estate Australia chief economist Nerida Conisbee says the new runway will create thousands of jobs and put Brisbane on the map as a truly global city.
“Melbourne and Sydney have very high global profiles,” she said.
“Sydney, from an international perspective. Melbourne, particularly in Asia. If people can get to Brisbane much more easily than they have in the past, of course it’s going to raise its profile.”
