Queensland’s 2020 Regional Architecture Awards have been decided in a glamorous ‘couch ceremony’ last week, crowning winning designers across our sunshine state.

Amongst the standout winners was Brisbane’s home of the year, a stunningly revamped Queenslander dubbed ‘Park Road House’. The architects, Lineburg Wang, took the top gong for their clever linking of the home and previously disconnected lap pool.
“The regulatory pool fence, typically an obstruction between house and pool and a function that seeks to be hidden, was embraced – the project conceived using pool fence as celebrated language,” their website says.
And for that statement we also give them the top gong for architect-speak. Crazy talk aside, it is a lovely house and will no doubt fill you with inspiration for your own grand design.
This lock down period has inspired many to connect with creative pursuits to stay sane, and Houzz says now is a great time to channel your inner creative into your own architecture brief.
“Spending more time than usual at home can highlight where your house functions well and where it doesn’t and how it provides spaces for household members to be together and apart. If a renovation or new build is in your future, then now is the time to focus on how you can improve your house and ultimately the way you live in it,” Houzz says

Here are #3 tips Houzz has collected on the topic of how to prepare your own architectural brief.

  1. Think qualitative, not just quantitative. Yes, you want 3 bedrooms, but how do you want to live in those rooms and the rest of your house?
  2. Consider all members of your household, including their habits and personalities. And think how those habits might change as your household grows and ages in years to come.
  3. Start architect shopping now. It takes time to build a relationship, and while you might not be looking to progress immediately, use this time to find your perfect architect match.
