Living in a unit with a family is no longer a compromise but has become a preferred choice for many as generational changes and cost of living pressures drive demand for higher density homes.

Affordability challenges are typically highlighted as they key driver of the surge in Brisbane unit prices this year.

But it’s not all about the money.

Generation X is the first where both parents are likely to be working driving significant shifts in how we live, reports news.com.au.

This is fuelling demand for larger units with three or four bedrooms, particularly in inner Brisbane.

A lower maintenance, near city home is a lifestyle choice increasing numbers of busy families are happy to make.

Here in the middle ring north we’re continuing to see strong demand for units and townhouses, including from families.

But many families are yet to give up on the Aussie dream of a backyard – or even a swimming pool! We’re also seeing strong demand for good value homes priced within the budget of the growing family.

If you’re thinking of making changes to suit your family, do your research and check out what’s on the market. You might be surprised at how higher density home designs have adapted to suit modern families – and if not, you’ll still find plenty of houses-with-backyards for sale in Brissie’s middle ring.
