But where’s the fun in that?
Bringing back once dated styles gives a whole new generation the chance to one day look back and cringe at photos!
So we think it’s great that terracotta is one of the top design trends tipped to dominate in 2026.
It’s part of an evolution we saw this year where designers continued to spurn minimalist whites, greys and metallics in favour of warmer, earthier interiors.
In a recent article, Better Homes and Garden gave this sneak peak to the design trends tipped to dominate in 2026.
- Warm and earthy tone. Get set to embrace “deep terracottas, warm caramels, earthy mochas and deep olive greens”. Yep, seriously.
- Sculptural and curved forms. Ditch straight and sharp for curvy and organic.
- Farewell grey, hello green. Green is now your go-to neutral, including olive, forest and emerald tones.
- Colour splash. Pops of colour are tipped to abound in throws, cushions and kitchen décor.
- Personalised spaces. Sorry Kmart lovers, 2026 is about personalised, not mass produced. On a budget? Showcase an op shop find that brings out your personality.
- Biophilic designs. Still grappling with this term? It just means bringing the outdoors in – something we naturally do in Brissie with our back decks and patios.
- Texture, texture and more texture. Jute, leather, velvet, reclaimed wood… the fingertips tingle just thinking about it!
- Sustainably sourced and reclaimed materials, plus furniture built to last, is taking the place of mass-produced options.
- Wellness spaces. Got a spare room or an unused corner? Turn it into a yoga or pilates space and add a wall shelf for your journal and scented candle. Multifunctional wellness room done.
