Recent media coverage of Australia’s renewable energy plans have shone a spotlight on the increasing risk to Aussie homes from changes in climate and more dramatic weather extremes.

This can mean hotter summers – the kind that even a Brissie local might complain about.

There are steps you can take to get your home summertime ready – and in fact many Aussies are already doing this.

The PropTrack Origin Australian Home Energy Report, released earlier this year, shows how many home owners are planning ahead, reports realestate.com.au.

It showed that two out of every three Aussies they surveyed planned to invest in energy efficiency upgrades over the next five years.

Motivations were split between environmental and money matters.

“More than two in three respondents (68%) said their primary reason for considering upgrades was to reduce energy bills, while 55% also cited environmental concerns,” it reports.

Aussies are also willing to dig into the piggy bank to fund energy efficiency improvements.

“The average respondent plans to spend around $7,950 on energy efficiency improvements over the next five years, with almost one in five respondents willing to spend more than $20,000.”

Older Aussies aged 50-64 years were planning to invest the most, on average more than $9,000 while 30 per cent of respondents were unsure how much they’d spend on energy efficiency in the future.

If you’re thinking of buying or renovating, taking energy efficiency into account can improve the comfort and cost of your household now and into the future.
