But would a million dollar property saving help sweeten the deal?
A recent analysis has revealed how crossing the river could save you mega bucks while still placing you an equivalent distance from the city centre.
Dubbed “sister suburbs” these are neighbourhoods that offer the same proximity to the city but are far cheaper than their cross river counterparts, reports realestate.com.au.
Take Zillmere for example. Long known as a family friendly and affordable suburb it has a median price of $850,000. It’s just 12km from the city centre and so is Brookfield with a median price a whopping million dollars higher at $1.86 million.
The gentrifying suburb of Banyo has a median price of $915,000 making it less than half the price of Robertson, also 11km from the city, which has a median of just over $2 million.
The sister suburb comparison between Boondall and Gumdale is even more stark. Boondall has a median of $885,000 whereas Gumdale, also 13km from the city, has a median of $2.44 million. That’s almost triple the price!
Yep, we get it. If you have horses and a pet goat then Zillmere just can’t deliver what Brookfield can. But the comparisons highlight just how much variety is there is in the Brissie market and if you’re looking for a good value buy, it pays to look for new pockets you may not have previously searched.
