It seems people in America are also interested in escaping it with recent overseas property search data revealing a significant jump in US searches in Australia.
Overall overseas searches in July rose 9 per cent month-on-month and 3 per cent year-on-year, reports realestate.com.au.
“There has been significant year-on-year growth in searches from the United Kingdom, Singapore and India looking at properties to buy, but none more so than the United States, which increased by 51 per cent,” it reports.
“It is common to see a spike in searches from overseas when there is political or economic turmoil in other countries and an increase in searches from Hong Kong began during the unrest in 2019, and searches also rose at the start of the pandemic.”
So is this a sign that Americans are ready to ditch the stars and stripes for the southern cross?
Maybe, maybe not. It could also be a sign that Aussie expats are planning to head home.
“It is not possible to identify whether the searchers are Australian nationals or citizens of another country, but it is more likely that Australians living abroad are the majority of searchers when there are events that affect their standard of living,” realestate.com.au reports.
For those US nationals who do make the move Down Under we’re sure they won’t be disappointed.
Some things may take a bit of getting uses to – like driving on the opposite side of the road and discovering Aussies are more likely to get fired up over football than politics.
Then there are some things won’t take much time to get used to at all, like enjoying a summer afternoon on the back deck and fish and chips at Sandgate.
Who wouldn’t want to escape here!?
