The Royal Queensland Show – aka the Ekka – runs from August 6-14 at the RNA Showgrounds in Bowen Hills.
For many Brissie locals, it’s best known for its strawberry sundaes, showbags and Sideshow Alley.
But the Ekka’s farming and horticultural roots are well worth exploring too.
Plant and garden displays of every variety will give you plenty of green ideas to take home to your backyard.
Check out the Giant Pumpkin competition entries for some trophy worthy vege patch ideas. It will have you racing to Bunnings to buy your own giant pumpkin seeds ready for next year’s show.
The School Garden competition will inspire your little ones to grow their own mini farm.
If flowers are your thing, you’ll find it hard to go past the floristry displays … and the Flower Beard competition promises to inspire and terrify: “The hair-larious competition will see florists decorate Brisbane’s best beards.” Eek! And yep, you guessed it, who else but Costa Georgiadis would be MCing this event.
Check out ekka.com.au for all the fun and foliage of this year’s show.
