An analysis of property search terms by Domain in late 2021 showed an increase in people looking for pools and rural retreats compared to previous years.
Unsurprisingly, homes with studies were also close to the top of many house hunters’ wish lists.
But it wasn’t all about lifestyle factors. Bargain hunters accounted for an increase in searches for duplexes and units, reflecting the affordability challenges that have come with surging property prices in many markets across Australia.
“Analysing keyword searches helps us distinguish between changing trends or fleeting moments of desirability,” said Domain Chief of Research and Economics Dr Nicola Powell.
“The pandemic has forced us all to use our homes differently as we spend more time than ever in them and perhaps forever made a mark on our purchasing decisions, property wish lists and architectural trends.”
