Brexit driving Brits from the motherland to Queensland

Sunshine, beaches, affordability and an enviably relaxed lifestyle have long been a magnet for Brits seeking sunnier pastures in Australia.

But now they have another motivating factor to leave dreary England: Brexit.

Recent figures show a spike in the number of Britons searching for property in Queensland, reports news.com.au. In fact property searches were up a third in December 2018 compared to the same time last year.

This has led to speculation that Britain’s uncertain exit from the European Union is motivating Britons to flee the motherland for a more stable home country… clearly they don’t know how many Prime Ministers we’ve had lately.

Perhaps not surprisingly the Sunshine Coast hot spots of Noosa Heads, Buderim and Mooloolaba are the most popular search spots in Queensland.

While Brisbane searches are split between the inner city charm of New Farm and the family friendly zones of North Lakes and Redcliffe.

The absolute favourite search spot for Brits is Byron Bay, which is technically in New South Wales but close enough to Queensland that we might claim it in the same way Australia claims New Zealand exports like Russell Crowe. Perhaps the Brits haven’t heard of him either.
