Brighter And some

Safe as houses

Home security is something that is super important but easy to overlook. Whether you’re a homeowner, or a landlord, there’s a few things you can do to secure your home.

Some low or no cost options for security include:

  • Installing peepholes in external doors
  • Installing sensor alarms
  • Padlock sheds
  • Secure the meter box
  • Get to know your neighbours
  • Avoid leaving notes on the front door
  • Keep foliage trimmed back
  • Be aware of what’s happening in your street

In essence, it should be hard for an offender to gain entry to your home; harder for them to make an exit with your belongings and easy for them to be noticed if they’re hanging around.

If you’re going away on holidays, some simple tips include leaving a light on inside the house, or installing sensor lights outside, contacting Australia Post to hold your mail and asking your neighbours to keep an eye on the place while you’re away.

And don’t forget man’s best friend – a dog is one of the biggest deterrents for thieves. It doesn’t have to be a huge size either, as long as it’s capable of making a good noise if someone unfamiliar arrives.
