If you’re looking to get into the market for under half a million this year, the good news is you’re spoiled for choice.

And depending on whether you’ve got your heart set on a house or a unit, you might be surprised at the suburbs you can buy into and still get a huge chunk of change from your $500k.

Think you’ll need to move to the outer suburbs to start your climb on the property ladder? Think again. You can get an older style, entry level, two-bedroom unit in Red Hill for a shade under $400k.

But if space is more important than CBD proximity then take your $400k – or a bit more if you’ve got it – and pack your bags for North Lakes where entry level four-bedroom homes and backyards await.

Here on the north side, you’ve got plenty of options in between.

Geebung offers great value buying for first timers prepared to breathe new life into an older style home. You get rail line convenience in this part of the north and if you stay on the rail line you’re essentially in prime first time buyer territory out to the Redcliffe Peninsula.

So, first timers, get ready to make 2019 the year you change from renter to home owner.

Here are #20 suburbs The Courier-Mail reports are tipped to become first home buyer havens in 2019.
