#19 Queensland towns with homes for under $200k

All this talk of million-dollar medians could be enough to make the bargain hunters of the property world find a new game.

But not everywhere comes with a millionaire price tag these days. Queensland has 19 towns or suburbs with a median house or unit price below $200,000, reports Domain.

Yes, they’re mainly in rural country towns. And yes, we know, not everyone wants to call Charleville home. (But we hear it has a pretty nice pub!)

So what are your options if you want to live in a metro area without a million dollar entry point?

Outer burbs baby is where it’s at.

Savings.com.au reports there’s a whopping $300,000 difference between the median price of Brisbane’s inner city suburbs and outer suburbs.

We think that’s a conservative figure. Yes, Brissie has seen supersonic growth last year, but entry level suburbs like Bracken Ridge can still turn up homes for sale in the $600,000 price bracket.

Townhouse, duplex and apartment living can also offer good value without the cost – and weekends spent mowing – that come with a freestanding home.

And if you want to get on the property ladder but can’t afford to buy where you really want to live, you can always consider ‘rentvesting’. Buy an investment property and rent your dream pad.
